As the Africa Energy Expo 2024 concluded its three-day run, it showcased ideas and projects offering hope in transforming Africa’s energy usage. The Expo served as a crucial platform for experts in energy, investors, and government leaders to unite their efforts in finding sustainable solutions to Africa’s energy challenges.
On the final day of the Expo, several key discussions were held, including one on new methods for accessing clean energy through Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE), as well as a conversation on the development of green hydrogen as a new way to help reshape Africa’s energy system. This session brought together experts from all over the world, who discussed how renewable energy could help Africa achieve its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions while promoting sustainable economic growth.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Abimana Fidele, stated that Rwanda is committed to continuing its support for projects aimed at achieving clean energy. He said: “Rwanda is ready to collaborate with investors to expand the use of renewable energy, especially solar power, in rural areas. We are confident that this will help us achieve our goal of 100% electricity coverage across the country and contribute to an environmentally sustainable economy.”
He also added that the Rwandan government has plans to continue promoting green hydrogen initiatives, which will contribute to producing clean energy from new hydrogen sources, helping the country meet its sustainable energy goals.
Africa Energy Expo 2024 demonstrated that Africa has significant opportunities to transform its energy usage, positioning clean energy as the key driver in combating climate change. Participants at the Expo emphasized the importance of collaborating with international investors to build projects that enhance renewable energy capacity and achieve environmental protection goals.
As Abimana Fidele explained, “Supporting infrastructure for clean energy is one of our key strategies in pursuing sustainable development and a critical step in addressing climate change.”
